My Boss Is Trying to Kill Me 上司が僕の殺害を計画

Hello, one and all. Chris Yates here, writer in Creative Services. And until a few weeks ago, I was pretty sure that my boss liked me.

George Rivera supervises my efforts here in Creative Services. Several months ago, he told me, "We're sending you to Hawaii to cover the Crown Diamond Reward Trip."

I smiled. "Never been to Hawaii," I said. "I'm not much for grass skirts, but the weather's nice from what I hear."

My euphoria dampened two weeks ago when things turned sinister. I was in a meeting, where they told me some of the excursions they were planning in Hawaii.

A shooting range.

"Ok. Fine."

A helicopter tour—with volcanoes.

"Gulp."

Swimming—with sharks.

"Whoa!"

And that was the moment that I realized that George is trying to kill me. His vendetta may or may not have to do with the fact that I recently outted him as the president of the David Hasselhoff Fan Club. Regardless, if a stray bullet from the firing range takes out the helicopter, and I land in shark-infested waters, George and I are going to have some words when I get back.

The Crown Diamond Reward Trip will be September 7 – 12, and I'm leaving next week. To all the Crown Diamonds with whom I will be partying in paradise, congratulations on earning this trip! I look forward to meeting you and keeping the world informed about our Hawaiian adventures.

上司が僕の殺害を計画

こんにちは、皆さん。クリエイティブ･サービスの執筆担当者クリス･イェーツです。僕は、数週間前までは、上司に好かれていると思っていました。

ジョージ･リヴェラは、ここクリエティブ･サービスで、僕の仕事振りを監督しています。数ヶ月前、ジョージが僕に、「クラウン･ダイヤモンド慰安旅行の取材のために君をハワイに派遣するからね。」と言ってきました。

僕はにっこりして、｢ハワイにはまだ一度も行ったことがないんです。フラダンスにはあまり興味ないけど、気候がいいと聞いてますから、嬉しいです。｣と答えました。

週間前に不吉なこと聞き、僕のこの幸福感は、血の気が引くように冷え込んでしまいました。僕が会議に出席していたとき、誰かがハワイで行われる予定の観光イベントについて話してくれました。

射撃練習場。

「そうなんですか。」

火山のヘリコプターツアー。

「えっ。」

サメと一緒に水泳。

｢やだ!｣

このときに、ジョージが僕を殺そうとしていることに気づいたのです。僕が最近、彼をナイトライダー主演のデビッド･ハッセルホフ･ファンクラブの会長の座から追い出したことに関係しているかどうかわからないけど、彼が僕に復讐しようとしているのは確かです。狙撃練習場からの流れ弾がヘリコプターに当たり、サメがウヨウヨと泳いでいる海に墜落するかもしれない。僕が戻ってきたら、ジョージを捉まえて、話をするつもりです。

クラウン･ダイヤモンド慰安旅行は、9月7~12日に行われ、僕は来週出発するつもりです。パラダイスで僕と一緒にパーティに加わってくださるクラウン･ダイヤモンドの皆さん、おめでとうございます。皆さんの努力が報われ、この旅行を勝ち取ったのですから、充分楽しんでくださいね。皆さんとお会いできるのを楽しみにしていますし、僕たちのハワイの冒険について逐次ご報告していきます。
